Welcome to the Spring Wellness Class! 'Tis the season when the trees start budding and the flowers start blooming, and we need a little extra support when spending time outdoors.
You may be surprised to learn that what we put on our bodies is absorbed within seconds! This is one of many reasons why choosing safe products is not only wise but a valuable investment! But how do you know which ones are safe? Recall after recall is scary and frustrating for someone who wants to know that what they use in their family is not causing harm!
In class, I’m sharing what to look out for when choosing sunscreens and insect repellent, as well as six DIY recipes and many tips for cost-effective natural solutions for your family this spring! Please reply to this email with your questions here at any time!

In addition to their simplicity, these homemade bye-bye bug luminaries rock because they’re not filled with chemicals whose names contain two-thirds of the alphabet! Being able to pronounce (and spell) all of the ingredients in a recipe is a big plus in my book.

Let’s talk about bug sprays. You have probably heard of DEET. It’s what’s in nearly all conventional insect repellents. But do you really know what it is? DEET is a synthetic chemical that was developed during WW2 and used by the U.S. Army in jungle warfare. In 1957, it was registered as a pesticide, where it became available to consumers and has been in use ever since.
Today, there are 500 products containing DEET on the market. Here is a quick list of some of the adverse side effects of this chemical: DNA damage/ cell death, rashes, skin irritation, numb or burning lips, nausea, headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and seizures!
These symptoms are sometimes not evident until months or even years after exposure. This is the DEFINITION of BIOACCUMULATION!.

This salve will support the healing of a bug bite or sting. It contains no petroleum, artificial scents, colors, or chemicals.

Olive oil is excellent for moisturizing and is packed with antioxidants.
Beeswax, while mainly used to bind and thicken the oils, also forms a barrier over a wound, protecting it and allowing the beneficial oils to seep deep into the skin.
Essential oils such as Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, and Lavender all have skin-soothing properties.
This salve is a powerful tool to support all skin troubles! Apply directly to the wounded area.

It's spring season when the trees start budding and the flowers start blooming, and we need a little extra support when spending time outdoors. Here are a few recipes and supplements that help ease discomfort and help us breathe easier. Roll on your forehead, around your ears, nose, chest, and throat!

Hiking out in nature is good for outdoor springtime adventures, but sometimes that means coming back far itchier than you left. If you look at the back of a calamine lotion bottle, you might notice the grocery store ingredients include added propylene glycol, fragrances, and parabens! You don't need any of those to make a natural calamine remedy.
Zinc Oxide – Provides UV protection and skin healing properties
Baking Soda – Helps to neutralize many bug bites, stings, and even the poison of some plants!
Clay – Helps to suck out all the toxins while also cleansing and healing the wound.
Vegetable Glycerin – Helps to put moisture in the skin to cleanse and heal the wound site.
Essential Oils – Lend their therapeutic properties to help soothe and support the skin.
Witch Hazel – Not only is it great to cleanse a wound, but it also soothes the itch and reduces inflammation.

Keep this handy in your bag! It works great if that bug somehow gets to you.

There are two types of sunscreens. Mineral sunscreens typically include ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which create a physical barrier to protect the skin from the sun. Chemical sunscreens use one or more chemicals, including oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. The chemical sunscreens have the potential to cross the skin barrier and wreak havoc on your endocrine system, thyroid, and hormones, to name a few.
Instead, mineral sunscreen offers broad-spectrum SPF 10 or 50 protection using naturally derived plant- and mineral-based ingredients, including non-nano zinc oxide—a physical UV blocker.
With hypoallergenic ingredients and skin-loving essential oils like Helichrysum, Carrot Seed, and Frankincense, this gentle sunscreen rubs on smoothly without a white residue!
Here are five reasons you want to replace your current lotion with this essential oil/mineral lotion!

Let's bring your diffuser outside! Using essential oils and aromatics as a natural repellent is nothing new; natural insecticides have been around for centuries and can be incredibly effective and powerful! Citronella oil has historically been used for repelling mosquitoes and is currently a registered insect repellent with the Environmental Protection Agency.
A 2011 review of plant-based insect repellents in Malaria Journal states that Citronella contains the following bug-repellant compounds: Citronellal and citronellol; Geraniol; Citral; α pinene; Limonene.
Thanks to these powerful components, researchers have found Citronella's effectiveness similar to DEET!

Are you looking for seasonal relief? You can use Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint, Copaiba, and Roman Chamomile in vegetable capsules and take as needed for support.
Start with one drop each and fill the rest of the capsule with carrier oil. Listen to your body and adjust the amount of drops of oil based on how you feel!
Multigreens are another option. Take 2 capsules two times per day. This supplement has bee pollen, which is helpful to start taking in prep for the change of seasons. Google it!
