Don't be fooled! When a company markets clean “green” products to you with pretty labels and sneaky wording, but in reality there’s a bunch of chemicals hidden in their ingredients, this is “greenwashing.” Labels are NOT THE BEST way to decide if a product is healthy enough for your family. If you want to know what you bring into your home, you must look at the ingredients.
Even then, some ingredients can be “trade secrets,” like flavorings or scents that are allowed to have additional ingredients INSIDE of them that DO NOT NEED to be disclosed!
The EPA found that 75% of the time, there were Phthalates (carcinogenic chemicals) in the ingredient “fragrance.” These ingredients cannot be processed out of our bodies easily like a natural ingredient, and build up with each use.
Chemical buildup over time can cause hormone and immune system disruptions, called bio-accumulation. In other words, it's entirely legal to hide the chemicals they do not want us savvy consumers who read labels to know about, so we CANNOT rely on a product's label to inform our decisions.
